Tis’ the season for weekend getaways, overnights, camping, and beaching. Wherever you are going–whether it’s an overnight or a week-long getaway–here are some tips to travel the yoga way.
As we remember, yoga is a philosophy, a way of being, a way of thinking. Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means “union.” The goal of yoga is to find a union of your body, mind, and spirit so that you can see the union that is everywhere around you.
Being in union means being aware, being fully present in everything you are doing, and–as we hear the hottest word around–“being mindful.”
Traveling is exciting, brings lots of memories, and gives us something to plan and look forward to.However, traveling can also take a toll on our bodies.
Whether it’s a long train, car, or plane ride, being sedentary for too long can cause muscle tightness, fatigue, and joint pain. Planning and packing can be stressful, and eating habits can become be irregular while you are on the go.
Breathing, Movement, Hydration, Rest, and Nutrition
Breathing and movement allow your body and mind to relax, creating a peace of mind so that you can enjoy your trip more fully. Hydration and rest are important to keep yourself alert and healthy. And nutrition is key for total health: Eating a balanced diet of protein and vegetables is important for sustaining energy throughout the day.
It is very important to be prepared andtake a few necessary tips with you on your journey:
1. Take time each day to quiet the mind with simple breathing techniques and relaxation.
