Iowa Memorial for Fallen Firefighters Adds 90 Names

The 20th annual Iowa Firefighters Memorial Service in Coralville was held Sunday, reports The Des Moines Register.

Loved ones paid tribute to firefighters who have died throughout Iowa by leaving wreaths next to the Firefighters Memorial Wall, reading off new names being added to the wall and releasing balloons. The names of 90 deceased firefighters were added to the Memorial Wall this year, including that of a firefighter who died in 1915 while on duty.

Mike Reuman, chairman of the Iowa Firefighters Association Memorial Committee, said firefighters play major roles in every community.

“They put in tremendous, tremendous amounts of time, and they risk their lives to save other people,” he said.
