Water Rates at Bayhead

Water Rates at Bayhead

The New Jersey board of public utility has decided that the rates for water charged by the Bayhead Water Company are not out of the way, and that the company has shown no discrimination. The complainant in the case had asked the company to set a meter in his summer bungalow, but had met with a refusal, on which he had appealed to the board. That body found that peculiar conditions attach to the Bayhead water supply. The actual population of the village is small, but during the summer months the supplymust be sufficient to serve the large number of those who spend their vacation there, and for that reason the plant must be larger than is needed for the permanent residents. That plant was originally a private venture instituted by members of the summer colony, who, at considerable expense to themselves, bored an artesian well 800 feet deep in order to obtain an exceptionally fine quality of water. It was shown that, without the gratuitous service of individuals interested in the venture, the plant could not have been run successfully. Investigation also proved that no undue profit resulted from the rates charged.
