IF the politicians at Elizabeth, N. J., can manage it, the passage of the ordinance for the establishment of the paid fire department will be delayed till after the November election, so as to prevent the fire commissioners, who will have the entire control of the department, from being named by the present acting mayor. The result of the election, it is confidently believed by the "outs,” will be the ousting of the present “ins”-the spoils belonging to the victors. It is not believed, however, that such peanut politics will prevail, or that the appropriation will be held up by the opposition, to whom it seems to make no difference whether or not the lives and property of the citizens shall continue to stand in jeopardy every hour, provided only the present political position is reversed—for the benefit not of the community, but of a few interested self-seekers. The political leopard cannot chauge its spots, nor the partisan Ethiopian alter the color of his skin.
