FIRE DEPARTMENT NEWS
—The territorial asylum at Blackfoot, Idaho, was burned on Monday. Fifty-seven out of sixty-five inmates were rescued, while two veomen and two men are known to have perished, and four are yet missing and are supposed to have been burned. The building was partially and its contents totally destroyed. The loss is $300,000.
—The steamer Santiago, from New York to Hull, was burned at sea November 19. Her crew and passengers, fiftynine souls all told, took to the boats and were picked up safely by the ship A. J. Fuller and landed at New York. The fire started among the cotton, which formed part of the cargo. The loss on vessel and cargo will approximate $1,000,000.
