For macadam, $165,850.30 was expended, and for bitumen $15,296.40. There was expended $3,193.03 for cement sidewalks and $9,512.89 for bitumen sidewalks. Grading cost $15,157.96; cutting, $13,894.24, and filling, $15,585,62. For wooden curbing, $11,819.08 was spent; for granite curbing, $6,097.55, and for cement curbing, $1,624.38. There were sixty-nine roadways paved, with a total length of from ten to twelve miles. Besides the Commerce street sewer, there were fifty-six new sewers constructed at a cost of $32,889 26. The cost of the Commerce street sewer of $41,297.86 added to the above makes a total of $74,187.12. Besides this, Mr. Fontaine estimates that thirteen miles of sewers have been constructed by private contract, of which no record has been kept, and that miles of sidewalks and roadways have been similarity made. The statement of sewer work shows linear feet of eight-inch pipe 21,379.14, cost $12,532.34; linear feet of ten inch pipe 1989, cost $2,357.59; linear feet of twelve-inch pipe 4,820.213, cost $4,585.68; number of V branches 1303, cost $1,015.55; curved branches 28, cost $83; brick manholes 92, cost $4661; iron manholes 37, cost $701.56; feet of box sewer 500, cost $492.70; trestle 61, cost $50; total cost, including $6,409.80 incidental expenses, $32,880.26.
