Roanoke Apartment Fire Displaces 47

A fire displaced 47 residents of Stratford Village, but no one was seriously injured, reports wdbj7.com.

But firefighters had to help some of the residents escape through the thick smoke.

Fire officials determined that the fire was accidental and was caused by “improperly discarded smoking materials.”

Wednesday afternoon, the Roanoke Fire EMS Department said the American Red Cross and Roanoke Emergency Management were opening the temporary shelter.

A community animal response team is also helping residents with displaced pets.
