Fire departments are not know for offering internships, but one Iowa student did not take no for an answer, reports KIMT CBS 3.
The student had called around and was not able to find a department that offered an internship. He contacted the chief at the Mason City Fire Department to inquire about creating the position. He was brought on as an intern, but the position does have limitations. He is allowed to ride the trucks and ambulances but is kept out of hazardous conditions.
The student is learning skills from working the ladder to gearing up for a call to help pursue his dream as firefighter paramedic.
