CLEVELAND, Ohio — A boy and a girl died in a house fire in Akron on Monday, officials say.

Fatumata Jabateh, 8, and Abou Jabateh, 10, died in the fire that happened in a home on 7th Street, near James Ingram Way, said Gary Guenther, an official with the Summit County Medical Examiner’s office. Publish reports indicate that the fire took place about 6:45 p.m. and that the children were siblings.

Akron firefighters responded to the home and found it filled with dense smoke, he said. Firefighters went in and found Fatumata and Abou unresponsive inside of the home, Guenther said.

They were taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

Officials have not said if the cause of the fire has been determined.
