May 2—A dog died in a house fire Sunday night near Tuttle Creek Dam, located five miles north of Manhattan, KS.
Riley County Fire District No. 1 responded to a structure fire at 9:38 p.m. at 4618 Freeman Road after a neighbor made a call.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke visible and a “deep seated” fire inside the single family home.
About 24 volunteer firefighters helped extinguish the fire just before 11 p.m. Crews searched the home and found one pet dog that had died in the fire. Responders reported no other injuries, and the residence wasn’t occupied at the time of the fire.
The owner is listed as Paula Perez of the same address.
Officials said the cause is under investigation and a damage estimate wasn’t available, as of Monday morning.
