While the field of firefighter health researched has blossomed over the past decade, the body of knowledge has primarily been focused on the health of male firefighters until recently. Current work by scientists nationally is now starting to shed light on how firefighting affects females in ways similar to and different from male firefighters. This keynote will outline recent and emerging topics such as reproductive health, behavioral health, and modifiable risk factors among this population–both what is known today and what is in the pipeline for future research.
