WMTW reportedon a series of recent near-misses for Maine firefighters operating on roadways.
The Etna (ME) Fire Department has had three separate dangerous roadway incidents in November; in one, an engine was struck, while in a separate incident the department’s utility vehicle was rear-ended.
No firefighters were injured in the incidents, but the department took to social media to remind residents to slow down and move over when passing emergency vehicles on roadways—a state law.
Numerous roadway incidents of late have proven deadly for firefighters around the nation. AFlorida firefighter was killed after being struck while working at an Alabama crash sceneearlier this month. In October, firefighters inLouiseandSan Antonio, Texas, as well asLexington County, South Carolina, died in incidents on roadways.
