Washington Fire Department.

The Board of Trade of Washington, D. C., held its first meeting for the fall term, Thursday of last week, in Builders’ Exchange Hall. Among other things discussed, was the present condition of the Fire Department, and the meeting strongly urged that the force be increased. Chief Parris was present and spoke in approval of the committee’s suggestions. He said that unless the equipment of the department was greatly increased and without delay, there would be serious danger from a great conflagration. As it is now, he said, when an unusually large fire breaks out, it is necessary to concentrate the entire force on it,leaving the rest of the city pr:.ctically unprotected.
