The I. A. F. E.

The I. A. F. E.

Next week the International Association of Fire Engineers will be in session for the fifty-second time since its formation in 1873. The association has had a long and interesting history. It has, in common with all great bodies of this kind, had its ups and downs, its vicissitudes and its struggles. But through them all it has emerged into a well organized institution which has taken a leading part—as it should— in matters of fire-fighting and fire prevention.

As the representative organization containing in its membership the fire chiefs of the country this association should insist upon having a voice in everything pertaining to the welfare of the country from a fire prevention standpoint. This is especially true in campaigns looking to the reduction of fire losses in cities and towns—in these events the fire chief and the association of which he forms a part should take a leading role and should be the moving spirit suggesting and carrying out reforms looking to the reduction of the fire losses.
