The Coney Island Convention.
The twenty-first annual convention of the New York State Firemen’s Association occupied the time of some 300 delegates at Coney Island all the week. The amount of business transacted was not very heavy for the reason that not much business was to be transacted. Pleasure and sightseeing were the principal attractions, and it is gratifying to know that the boys had their full share of both.
In front of the State executive committee’s headquarters, on Surf avenue, a wooden arch was erected with “ Welcome to Our Visiting Firemen ” in big letters across the top. The men began to arrive Sunday night, and on Thursday and Friday some 30,000 firemen had assembled on the island.
