Ten Lives Lost in Tenement Fire.
Ten lives were lost, four more persons will probably die and many were injured in a fire that broke out in the 4-story brick tenement house No. 71 1/2 Mulberry street. Manhattan, New York, at 1 o’clock a. m. on October 5. Many were hurt by leaping out of the windows, the fire-escapes being more or less clogged up with wood, which rendered escape by them almost impossible. Firemen and four young men of the neighborhood made many rescues. I he premises were gutted in less than fifty minutes. The fire probably started from a Yom Kippur candle kept lighted in the rooms of a Hebrew family.
