Report of Ansonia Fire Department
According to the final report of Fire Chief J. Thomas Bennett of the Ansonia, Conn., Fire Department, who ended his term of office on December 31, 1942, the Department responded to seventy-six bell alarms and twenty-nine still alarms during the past year.
The fire loss for the year was $90,804, approximately $70,282 more than the preceding year, Retiring Chief Bennett’s report states. The heavy loss was due to the four largest fires of the year, namely, the Elks Building, the Levy Building, The New Haven Railroad Company’s Freight Station and the Brody Building. These four fires made up more than seventy-five per cent of the entire year’s loss.
