Overzealous Volunteer Jailed
Herbert E. Rittman, 22, a volunteer member of the East Hampton, Conn., Fire Company, with a penchant for starting fires so he could race the East Hampton apparatus to the scene, pleaded guilty in Superior Court, Middletown, Conn., on April 2, to four counts of arson.
Judge Ernest A. Inglis sentenced Rittman, who had been connected with the East Hampton Fire Company for two and one-half years, to six months in jail on each count, the sentences to run concurrently.
