School Fire Marshals Receive Medals
In recognition of the practical work done in the interest of fire prevention and fire protection during the school year just closed, State Fire Marshal John G. Gamher has presented gold medals to the 28 high school students who have served as Junior Fire Marshals. Miss Louise Buss of the Lucy Flower Technical High School, Chicago, has the distinction of being the only girl among them. The Junior Fire Marshals have had charge of fire prevention work in their respective schools. They have conducted fire drills twice each month, have inspected the school buildings and neighborhoods regularly for fire hazards and have done other practical work towards reducing the danger of fire. The medals are specially designed and they bear the American flag in colors with the words, “To prevent fires is a patriotic duty." On the reverse side the name of the student is engraved together with details of the presentation. Fire Marshal Gamher announces that he plans to extend the work next year with a view to taking in a great many more of the high schools of the State.
