Guardian Engine No. 29.

The above company was organized in the year 1803. Its first location was on the west side of a hill on Washington street, near Perry. When the former street was graded they were left, high and dry, away up on top of an embankment, full twelve feet above the level of the street. The old State Prison adjoined the engine house in those days. Among the founders of the company we find James Van Nordon, Garrett Tinkey, Jesse M. Chaple and Joseph N. Blaum, and in 1812 Peter Chambers, John West and Peter Van Maker.
