Claremont, N. H., has a handsome new Gleason & Bailey up-to-date four-wheeled hose wagon for one or two horses. It is fully equipped with all the necessary tools and has attachments on each side for chemical fire extinguishers. The tires of the wheels are made considerably wider than the felloes, so as to prevent injury to the woodwork of the wheel when running over frozen ground or striking against curbing. When empty, the wagon weighs about 1,300 pounds; when fully equipped and carrying 800 feet of hose, it weights 1,000 pounds more; cost was $400.
The American Fire Engine Company, of Seneca Falls, N.Y., was the successful bidder for a new second-size Silsby engine Allentown, Pa. The same company will also rebuild the Liberty engine belonging to that city.

The new steam fire engine just built for Harrisburg, Pa., by the American Fire Engine Company.of Seneca Falls, N. Y. has the Clapp tube boiler and the new American pump (guaranteed capacity 750 gallons a minute). At its recent test the engine was started with twenty-seven and one half pounds of steam got up in six minutes, fifteen seconds. In nineteen seconds more there were thirty pounds; in twenty-five seconds more,fifty pounds; in nine minutes,fifteen seconds, 120 pounds and blowing oft. At that pressure,with a one and onc-fourthinch nozzle through fifty feet of hose siamesed, the water pressure was 225 pounds; with a one and one-half-inch nozzle, 190 pounds,the water pressure was the same with two streams, one and one-eighth-inch nozzle each and the same steam pressure. The test being purely a mechanical one, no measurements were taken of distances thrown.
