Charles T. Holloway has lately delivered chemicals to the following cities, two to Philadelphia, one to Pittsburg, Utica, New Haven, Hagerstown and Richmond. The works are now engaged on engines for Springfield, two; Newark. Scranton, Allentown, Augusta, Ga,. Westchester, Pa., Nutley, N. J. and Watertown, Conn. Mr. Holloway is also making two large city tenders for Terrell, Tex. and Winchester, Va.
The new pump at the Pittsburg, Pa., city water works at brilliant station was started at 8:30 o'clock, July 1, and is now working smoothly. The contract for this pump was let to the Holly Company last August. It is placed in the southwest corner of the big pump room; the contract for the twin brother of this machine was let at the same time. It will be placed in the southwest corner of the big pump room. It is being set up in the works of the contractors at Ixtckport, N V., and will soon be shipped here. The foundations arc already built for its reception. The fly wheels of the new pumps are 16 feet in diameter. The price of each pump is about $85,000 In order to accommodate the water forced up to the reservior by the new pump, a new main was laid to the top of the hill. It is 50 inches in diameter and would carry 100,000,000 gallons of water per day if necessary. The mains and their coneetions are so arranged that if either the old or new one should get out of order no stoppage of the work would he necessary as the water from all the pumps can be turned into either main. When the new main reaches the top of the hill it joins the old main. Water was forced through the new main for the first time last Friday, and now the new pump is forcing the water by tilts route.
