Mayor Gaynor’s Action on Meters Criticised
As the proof of a pudding is found in its ating, so the proof of water meters as a saving to the consumer is found in the test. New Orleans. La., has given the meter a thorough trial and is therefore competent to act as a judge. Here is what the Daily Democrat of that city has to say editorially about Mayor Gaynor’s turning down the water meters in New York:
“New York has had before it for decision a point settled more than a year ago by New Orleans—and it has reached a wholly different conclusion from us, and we believe a wrong one. Mayor Gaynor has decided that it is against public policy and not in the interest of public health and cleanliness to meter the water supply of that city, as has been done in New Orleans and elsewhere.
