TheInternational Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI)is excited about its 2009 Fire Prevention grant project funded by the Department of Homeland Security. The grant project is currently approaching conclusion of the research/data gathering and is in the process of bringing the project together with reactions with leading fire service experts. Video will be captured atFDIC, which will incorporate selected fire service leaders reactions to the project. The project focuses on how to disseminate previous grant projects which highlighted the performance of lightweight construction on today’s fireground scene.
“It is our hope that this new resource designed specifically for instructors, will enable them to deliver this valuable information to firefighters in a way that makes a difference and potentially saves firefighters lives,” explains Shane Ray, ISFSI Governmental Affairs Director. “It’s great to work on such a project that takes previous test results, provides links to all of the research, and goes to the step beyond in making it ready for instructors to deliver to firefighters.”
A special thanks toUnderwriters Laboratory, the National Research Council of Canada, Tyco Fire and Building Products, the American Forest & Paper Association, and theUnited States Fire Administrationfor their work on this topic and in improving citizen and firefighter safety.
The finished resource is expected in June of 2010, and will be distributed to all ISFSI members as well as allIAFCSafety, Health&SurvivalSection members.
