CLEVELAND, Ohio— A 1-month-old girl and a 1-year-old boy died Tuesday in a house fire in Cleveland’s Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood, officials said.
Cleveland fire spokesman Mike Norman said the two children died in the fire that broke out about 10 a.m. at a home on Jeffries Avenue near Warner Road, just north of the Garfield Heights border.
Firefighters rescued three other children inside the home. They are in stable condition, Norman said.

Norman said the children’s mother was not at home when the fire started but arrived home shortly after. A 14-year-old boy inside the home was watching the other children, Norman said.
He said police and fire officials are investigating. They have not yet determined what caused the fire.
Garfield Heights police and firefighters from surrounding suburbs helped Cleveland firefighters extinguish the fire and search for the children.
Norman said chaplains were called to the scene for the firefighters, many of whom are young.
“It’s hard, anytime there’s a double-fatal fire it’s tough,” Norman said.
