Ingenuity Turns Surplus Into Asset
By using some ingenuity and a surplus military truck, the Green Mountain, Ala., Volunteer Fire Department now has a brush fire truck that can provide a useful stream through 500 feet of ½-inch garden hose.
Through the Office of Civil Preparedness, the department first obtained a 3/4 -ton 4*4 (four-wheel drive) weapons carrier. We wanted a tank on it that would feed a pump and we also wanted a lightweight, really long line to drag among trees to fight grass fires.
