Hose Firm Opens New Jersey Plant
About a year after groundbreaking ceremonies, a new municipal and industrial fire hose plant is now in operation in Kenvil, N.J. Sal Amico, plant general manager of the Ponn Fire Hose Manufacturing Company, said that the company plans to manufacture a full line of 1 1/2 to 3 1/2-inch quality fire hose with woven single and double jackets of 100 percent polyester.
“Of course,” Amico explained, “we’ll manufacture hose jackets of such materials as cotton/polyester and linen to specific requirements. For the life of me, though, I can’t think of a single reason for buyers passing up the superior capabilities and service longevity of pure polyester yarns. For example, polyester yarns have over 300 percent greater tensile strength than cotton yarns and are totally impervious to damage by mildew, the greatest single, and almost inevitable, source of failure in cotton yarns, even those treated for mildew resistance.
