Fred Shepperd Dies at 79; Edited Fire Engineering
Fred Shepperd, who for 30 years was the editor of Fire Engineering and associated with its predecessors going back to 1909, died in his home in Ann Arbor, Mich., on December 29 of a heart attack.
Mr. Shepperd was born in Belgrade, Mont., on February 7, 1892 and came to New York when in his teens. In 1909, he joined Fire and Water Engineering, which was owned by his uncle, Frederick W. Shepperd. While at this job, he acquired a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cooper Union and followed with an M.S. from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute—all of which he accomplished at night.
