Fire Fighting Railway Cars Placed in Service
The first of a fleet of ten fire fighting cars, designed to insure safety of war shipments, particularly oil, has been placed in service by the New York Central Railroad.
The cars will be placed at strategic locations along the right of way with a view to protecting the movement of oil in tank cars from production centers to the East and New England. The new fire fighting equipment consists of a locomotive tank tender placed at one end of a flat car, over which is constructed a housing with two side doors and a door at the end opposite the tank.
