“Perhaps never before,” said Mr. Stocker, "has any clique of politicians proposed so defenceless and so dangerous a change in govermnen al machinery as has the Barnes controlled Assembly in its avowed purposes to legislate the State Fire Marshal’s office out of existence. The action would lessen the cost of government, but only at the expense of tearing down one of the safeguards which have been erected to protect the people from loss of life and property by fire.”
