May 2—Ten people were displaced after a fire broke out in a Johnson County home early Monday.
Fire crews from Overland Park, Lenexa and Shawnee were sent just after 3 a.m. to a house fire in the 8700 block of Conser Drive in Overland Park, according to a news release from Jason Rhodes, with the Overland Park Fire Department.
On their way to the scene, emergency crews learned that some people were trapped in the basement, Rhodes said.

Overland Park Police officers, some of the first to arrive on scene, helped everyone out of the basement by the time fire crews got there. Three of the officers were evaluated for minor smoke inhalation.
Once there, fire crews could see smoke coming from the front door of the single story home.
The fire, which officials believe started in the kitchen, was extinguished in just a few minutes. Rhodes said the home did not have any working smoke alarms.
Ten people were displaced as a result of the fire. They are receiving help and emergency lodging through the American Red Cross.
Anyone in need of smoke alarms can reach out to the fire department for assistance.
