“Norwood was without adequate facilities. If it hadn’t been for Cincinnati firemen, Cincinnati apparatus and Cincinnati water, nothing could have prevented the flames from laying waste many squares of residences and factories in East Norwood,” said Capt. John J. Conway, of the Cincinnati Salvage Corps, describing the situation faced by Norwood, a suburban of Cincinnati, when the plant of the Boss Washing Machine Co. and a residence were destroyed, the water works and light plant put out of commission and several homes damaged by fire one day recently. That the fire is the greatest object lesson supporting annexation to Cincinnati that Norwood has experienced, was the expression of factory owners and citizens in general. Norwood, practically surrounded by Cincinnati and virtually a part of the city, has refused previously to sanction annexation. The loss of the fire is about $175,000.
