Auburn, N.Y. — One person was found dead Friday morning while firefighters worked to extinguish a house fire in Auburn.
Around 7:22 a.m., police and firefighters responded to 22 Kearney Ave. for reports of smoke pouring out of the home, according to a news release from Auburn police.
When crews arrived they saw flames coming from inside the home, police said.
The fire was contained to one bedroom and was knocked out in less than ten minutes, Auburn Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Grady said. The rest of the home sustained smoke and heat damage, he said.
While firefighters were battling the blaze, they found one person inside the home, police said. the person, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, they said.
Grady could not confirm where the body was found inside the home, he said.
The cause of the fire and the cause of the individual’s death are under investigation, police said. Police will identify the deceased individual once the family has been notified, they said.
