Mar. 8—Firefighters from Cobb County and Marietta arrived at an industrial park that contained hazardous materials on Tuesday morning.
Authorities arrived at 980 Industrial Park Drive in Marietta around 5:30 a.m., expecting for there to be fire after a sprinkler in a chemical manufacturing business went off. Not until arriving did Marietta Fire Department officials discover that the sprinkler went off due to a chemical reaction that caused the business to heat up.

“It was an organic acid-based compound that had generated enough heat to activate the sprinkler system,” Cobb Fire PIO Steve Bennett said in an email.
After Marietta Fire arrived on the scene to no fire, they contacted Cobb County Fire and their hazmat unit to help with the incident. A biohazard cleanup company also arrived on the scene to help fire officials with remediation efforts. There were no employees in the building when the incident occurred, and there were no injuries, according to Bennett.
Traffic was shut down for a few hours after the incident, but roads in the area were reopened around 10 a.m.
