A man lost both his hands in what has been described as a botched chemical experiment in an apartment in the Boston neighborhood of Hyde Park.
The explosion occurred at about 9:07 a.m. in the basement of a four-story apartment building, according to a report on boston.com (http://bo.st/19oPjIY). Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis said the injured man may have been experimenting with fireworks, and there was no indications of terrorism or of a drug lab on the premises.
的小职员ioner said the victim, in his 30s, was working with chemicals, including a white powder, in the kitchen of his basement apartment when the blast occurred. The badly injured man was transported to an area hospital, and other people were also treated at hospitals and at the scene.
