A Potter County (PA)house fire that killed five teens and injured two adultswill not have an official cause, police said Tuesday night.
The fire broke out at the Genesee Township home on Monday, police said. Inside, three boys, ages 14, 16, and 17, and two girls, both 16, died in the fire, police confirmed. Their deaths are being ruled accidental.
The two adults, Michelle and Charles Erway, are currently in a burn unit at a hospital in New York, police said. Michelle Erway is in intensive care but Charles Erway is in inpatient care.
Olean时代先驱报》送报纸报道that three of the victims were children of the Erways and two others were staying at the house.
A GoFundMe campaignwas created by a friend to assist the Erways.
Police said the extensive damage to the house means officials are unable to find the cause of the fire and are ruling it undetermined.
An investigation found that there may have been an issue with the home’s wood stove or its chimney, which may have been the cause. Investigators say they believe that the fire started in the basement of the home.
