Timely assistance from a neighboring fire department enabled the Allen Park (MI) Fire Department to continue providing service despite the fact that its equipment was out of the service.
The situation unfolded last week when all the department’s ambulances were knocked out of service with various mechanical problems, according to thePress & Guide(http://bit.ly/1dPeZUd).
After calling a number of nearby departments, Allen Park firefighters were able to enlist the help of the Dearborn Heights Fire Department.
Fire Chief Douglas LaFond said the current fleet of trucks are old and breaking down more quickly than they can be maintained, and he has written a grant proposal to get funding for a new ambulance.
