FSF Releases Training Program on Down Firefighter Carry

Firefighters perform a carry to remove a down firefighter.

The Firefighters Support Foundation (FSF) recently released a training program that demonstrates a way of removing a down firefighter from a confined space.

“OurDowned Fire Fighter Confined Space Carryprogramdemonstrates a highly efficient method of getting a downed firefighter quickly and safely out of a confined space, including many types of confined spaces,” says FSF President David Kenik.

This is a carry developed by the PPES Guardian Training Specialists. This carry allows two rescue firefighters to remove a down firefighter through debris, upstairs, and how to maneuver around corners, all the while keeping the rescuers and downed firefighters below the thermal layer in an IDLH atmosphere with relative ease. The Guardian Specialists explain the benefits of this carry compared to other types of carries. They demonstrate why this carry is superior to other carries and then demonstrate it. They show how to perform the carry outside of the Guardian simulator, step by step, and then demonstrate it inside the simulator using the obstacles the Guardian Safety and Survival Simulator® has to offer.

This video program uses the ultra-realistic Guardian Safety and SurvivalTrainingSimulator®. The presenter is Michael Wood, an acting lieutenant on one of the busiest companies in one of the nation’s busiest departments.
