The San Francisco (CA) fire chief has banned firefighters from using helmet cameras in the wake of the Asiana Airlines crash that killed two teens in July.
Chief Joanne Hayes-White’s ban on video cameras now explicitly includes helmet-mounted devices that film emergency scenes, according to theSan Francisco Chronicle(http://bit.ly/1cTXp3E). Chief White attributed the move to increase patient safety.
Images from the plane crash led to questions about fire crews’ actions up to afire apparatusrunning over a survivor. In late July, the San Mateo County Coroner confirmed that a Chinese student on Asiana Flight 214 survived the crash-landing, only to be killed on the runway by an emergency vehicle.
