The D.C. fire department is slated to announce new hires of paramedics and the purchase of several new ambulances.
The Associated Press reported (http://wapo.st/19K9TGg) that the department is trying to make do with less than half the paramedics employed by departments that respond to similar numbers of medical calls.
Yet the department has come under fire for itsmedical servicesof late, with some high-profiles incidents involving EMS equipment and apparatus. Two ambulances were hit byengine fires, while in another instance anambulance carrying a shooting victimbroke down.
