Mar. 17—CLINTON — Four people were killed Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle head-on collision on Iowa 136 in Clinton County.
According to a press release issued by Clinton County Sheriff Bill Greenwalt late Wednesday night, deputies were dispatched shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday to the 4100 block of Highway 136 in reference to a two-vehicle accident.
Greenwalt said that based on preliminary investigations, a vehicle traveling west on Iowa 136 collided head on with a vehicle traveling east on Iowa 136.

As a result of the collision, the driver and two passengers in the eastbound vehicle died, the sheriff said. The driver of the westbound vehicle also sustained fatal injuries, Greenwalt said.
One passenger in the eastbound vehicle was transported to MercyOne Clinton emergency room and was later airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Iowa City.
The names of the deceased are being withheld pending proper notification of family, he said.
The accident remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Andover Fire Department, Goose Lake Fire Department, Clinton Fire Department, Charlotte Fire Department, Clinton County Medical Examiner’s Office, Iowa Department of Transportation Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement and MedForce Air Ambulance.
