Chicopee (MA) firefighters extinguished a fire that caused considerable damage to a Granby Road home Sunday afternoon.
Chicopee Fire Department Deputy Chief Douglas Sandford said the department was alerted to the fire in the home at 292 Granby Road at about 5 p.m. Firefighters found flames coming from the rear of the single-family house upon arrival.
The fire itself was quickly knocked down, he said, then fire personnel overhauled the structure looking for extension of flames into the structure of the building.
Sandford said fire investigators were called in to determine the exact cause.
The occupants of the house were not home at the time of the fire and no injuries among fire personnel were reported.
