Before becoming assistant chief, Lipski was a MFD deputy chief for the firefighting division. Prior to joining the MFD, he worked as an EMT for Paratech Ambulance Company and a Tunnel and Mine Rescue instructor for the National Tunnel Institute.

Wolfgang Knabe.will take over as the new interim chief of the Santa Monica (CA) Fire Department (SMFD) on June 10. Knabe is a 40-year fire service veteran as well as a former U.S. Marine, Los Angeles City (CA) Fire Department firefighter, and Los Angeles Police Department SWAT officer. He retired as Fullerton/Brea’s fire chief in 2018 but came out of retirement in July 2020 to become interim chief of the Manhattan Beach (CA) Fire Department. He replaces Bill Walker, who will leave the SMFD to take the top job with the Bedford (TX) Fire Department.
