DELAWARE'S busiest industrial live has certainly omitted nothing to make its water works perfect. Its filter plant is surrounded with grounds that promise to be as great an ornament to Wilmington as Cool Spring Park, while the filter plant itself seems to answer its purpose most admirably. The water which comes from it shows only 0.025 of free ammonia and 0 070 of The citizens make fair use of meters, 117 of which were placed during the past year, making the total number placed in the city 885 The experience of the department shows their effectiveness in preventing wilful waste and in the more equitable adjustment of the charges to the consumer—to say nothing of their greatly decreasing the pumpage, as has been the case in Wilmington. In order to preserve the pollution of. the source of the water supply, two inspectors have been appointed to patrol the picturesque banks of the Brandywine and its tributaries, which form such lovely pleasure resorts for the people, to accommodate whom in every possible way, the department has gone to considerable expense, even to that of erecting two public comfort-houses, connected with the intercepting sewer that passes in close proximity to them. Wilmington is to be congratulated on its unique water department.
