WELLS
The people of Sunset Valley, Cal., having been refused water by the Spring Valley Water Company. Edward Ewald. mayor of Sunset, has put in a bid to supply an artesian well system for San Francisco by tapping the subterranean channel which runs through the district under the substratum of clay, to produce daily 30.000.000 gallons more and better water than the Spring Valley Water Company supplies, and give reservoirs of such an altitude as to supply every inhabitant of the city with pure, fresh water, and with pressure enough to extinguish fires without the use of fire engines.
Two covered clear wells of 20.000,000 gallons each will be built between the two new settling basins to be constructed near Richmond pike, Cincinnati, Ohio.
At Dixon. Cal., have occurred two fatal cases and one dangerous poisoning from drinking polluted—possibly poisoned well water.
At Wilmington. N. C.,a deep artesian well is being drilled.
The wells of Fulton. N. Y., Water Works Company are being cased up.
The artesian well in City Hall park “at Bridgeport, Conn., has been completed. Sixty-five feet of its depth were drilled through solid rock. It will flow 108 gallons an hour.
