Water Works Standardization
In the last issue of FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING were published specifications for standardization of the disk type water meter as finally adopted by the American and New England Water Works Associations and the Meter Manufacturers’ Association. In this issue we are glad to add one more chapter to the history of the important work on standardization that is going forward in water works matters.
This constitutes the joint report of the committees of the American and New England Associations and the National Association of Brass Manufacturers, containing the proposed specifications for standardizing the manufacture of corporation cocks, curb cocks, couplings and other brass goods used in water works practice. As mentioned in the introduction to the report on page 583 the first extensive move in the accomplishment of standardization of this class of goods was made by FIRE AND WATER ENGINEERING when it asked the opinion of water works men as to the desirability of standardization in the manufacture of brass goods and following a mass of replies in the affirmative, suggested to the American Water Works Association that they take the matter up at their Montreal convention held in June, 1920. This suggestion was adopted by the program committee and Adolph Mueller, chairman of the manufacturers’ standardization committee, was invited to address the association on the subject, which he did. A committee was then appointed, which in conjunction with similar ones from the New England Association and the National Association of Brass Manufacturers, is responsible for the specifications published this week.
