The town of Lewisburg. W. Va., has been allowed by the Public Service Commission to increase its rates on water furnished by a municipal plant to the following schedule: 75 cents a thousand for the first 20,000 gallons, 52 ½ cents a thousand for the next 20,000 gallons, 37 ½ cents a thousand for the third 20,000 gallons, 22 1/2 cents a thousand for the next 20,000 gallons, and 15 cents a thousand for the fifth 20,000 gallons and all above that amount.
A new water ordinance, raising rates for users of more than 1,500 cubic feet a day. was introduced into council July 28 in Toledo, Ohio. Service Director Goodwillie. who asks the ordinance in order to raise enough additional income to pay the interest on the $950,000 bond issue for water improvements voted Monday night, says it will affect only 270 of the 38,000 customers. “It raises the rate of large consumers 7 per cent, "and nets about $30,000 additional a year.” said Mr. Goodwillie. “The big consumers are going to reap benefits under improvements to be made with the bond issue, and they should help stand the cost.” Council finance committee approved the ordinance.
