WATER FOR RICHMOND BOROUGH.
Governor Stokes of New Jersey has sent to both houses of the legislature a communication received by him from Secretary of State Root, asking that the present State law forbidding potable waters being conveyed out of the state be amended so as to permit the furnishing of waters from the mountains of New Jersey to Staten Island. Mr. Root, in his letter, said that the supply for Richmond borough (Staten Island) is inadequate, and he particularly mentioned that the United States is interested because of the location there of Fort Wadsworth. The two houses subsequently adopted a resolution providing for the appointment of the judiciary committee of each body to act as a joint committee to investigate the question. Mr. Root’s letter was in line with the request received by Governor Stokes some time ago from Mayor McClellan.
