Virginia Wants Firemen’s Schools

Several topics of current interest were discussed at the meeting of the Virginia State Fire Chiefs’ Association convention held in Lexington, Va.

A state law was suggested to aid the movement of standardizing hose and hydrant threads. The chiefs emphasized the need of a firemen’s school where men engaged in fire-fighting could learn the latest methods and where they could become acquainted with the various tools and appliances used. It was pointed out that eighty per cent of the fire departments in Virginia were volunteer departments and that in order to reduce fire losses in the state, it is necessary that these men be given proper instruction.
