TWO BRAVE BOYS

TWO BRAVE BOYS

保罗·l·芬奇是一个卑微的避署vator boy in a Chicago apartment house which was burned last week. But he is none the less a her, and one of a high order. While the fire was raging, he stuck to his post and made ten trips through smoke and flame, until he had rescued all the occupants of the upper floors He kept his head all the time and would not allow the elevator to be overcrowded, giving the preference in every case to women, children, and aged persons. Paul Fischer deserves a medal. Joseph Brady, a sixteen-yearold boy of 247 East Fifty-ninth street, borough of Manhattan, N. Y., is another youthful hero. He awoke at 2 o’clock a.m« and found the flat on fire. Hearing his mother and five younger brothers and sisters scream, he ran to them and led his mother to a rear window and dropped her outside, so as to be able to catch the little ones as he lowered them down. All this time he was slowly bleeding to what may yet turn out to have been his death. The lock of the window was so rusted that it would not pull back, so that, in order to open the window sufficiently, the boy had to dash his fist through the glass. In so doing he severed an artery in his wrist. He said nothing about it, however, till after he effected the rescue of his mother and the rest of the family, when he fell fainting and was carried to the hospital in an ambulance. Hi* recovery is just possible.
